Eating their curds and whey...

I have failed to make cheese with my goat milk. Any goat farmers or cheesemeisters care to offer an opinion? I was trying for mozzerella which I can make in an hour with cow milk. Not so much with Dottie milk. Hmmm, I need to google I guess.

Anyway, the chickies enjoyed the whey produced from the cow milk mozzerella (which I had to make to confirm my mozzerella making ability-turned out lovely) and the curds and whey from the failed goat milk.

See how noble Charles is being. He was crowing for all the hens to come partake of the treat he had found for them. He is such a good provider. Though the leghorn in the corner might have a thing to say about that in the next few weeks. We must never forget that no matter how fine we think ourselves, there is always someone younger and stronger right behind us.

Smiles from the (goat mozerella-less) farm,
Lisa

  1. I have always just made the farmer's cheese with our goat milk but I want to try mozzarella this year too. I will have to wait until the goat kids are weaned to have enough extra milk though. Pretty chickens!

  2. Hi Lisa, I just had to come over and say...you are really very funny. Loved the post of you getting trapped in the chicken coop.
I took your advice on the lambs.

  3. Hi Lisa...You have very attractive chickens. Good looking! I have no knowledge of making Mozzarella..as you can imagine, I get mine at Hannaford. Hope your week-end is looking good! Hugs, Kathleen

  4. Good morning, Lisa! Thank you so much for stopping by.

What a wonderful time I had strolling through your barnyard this morning Ben and Jerry and Charles... You are a brave woman indeed to take on both a teenager AND farm critters and their attendant chores.

I have a great deal of respect for you -- I don't think I would have waited 40 minutes to kick down that chicken house door. More like 40 seconds. Patience not being one of my stronger virtues...
    :-)))

Can't wait to read more of your adventures! Hope spring has made it to Maine -- it sure is lovely here in Ohio this year.

    Warmly, Ronda

  5. Unfortunatly Lisa, that is the whole truth about life, isn't it. Poor Charles, I hope he stays on top of his game for years to come. Char
