Gasp...cough...dramatic sigh...I'm still alive...

Remember this?

Well it became this....

And after a ton of wood putty and repair brackets, wood glue, spit, swears, primer and paint...it changed into this.....(stained wood purists-the damage was extensive and would have been impossible to hide.  There were chunks missing-CHUNKS I SAY!)

So like an over-involved stage mother----After tearing the whole thing down...I slowly built it back up.

And here it is....SPARKLE BABY!!!!  (Nope, never watched one single episode of Toddlers and Tiaras--not ONE*)  (*Lies)

Is it not just lovely?  I'm feeling more confidant with the upholstery thing.  Getting better-not great yet, but figuring it all out slowly.

And where is this little gem you ask?  Well I'll tell you.  It is at my new antique booth!  You can find it at The Dream Catcher on Main Street in Ellsworth, Maine!  I have a Facebook page if you wanna look at some other stuff....

So this is what I've been doing for the last month or so.  I'm exhausted and the booth still isn't filled or organized to my liking.  I'll try to update this little old blog more often with all my doings, but if I go missing that is where I will be.  Thanks for stopping by!

Smiles from the farm,
Lisa

  2. It's fabulous!! I Have been getting interested in upholstery recently, too, but I don't have a piece to practice on, and I am terrified. I think I might do a class at the local community college and have someone hold my hand for the process. :)

    1. I think a class is a great idea. It will save you lots of trial and error. I don't usually spend very much on my pieces, so if it doesn't work out it's no big deal. Good luck, I know you would be great at it!

  5. Wow great job! I have 3 antique wing back chairs I found as freebies that need to be repolstered ... I started one and got overwhelmed / scared and so i bought three chair covers instead! I watched my mother and grandmother repolstered a couch one summer.. Lots of swearing And a little crying! Especially when my mom staple -gunned her hand.... Then she did it to my grams hand a couple days later !!! Crazy ladies :p your work inspires me to try again tho.. Hmmm

    1. Oh dear with the stapled hand! I sewed the tip of my finger once while making a slip cover! It was kind of shocking. My advice is to work slow and don't stress out. Oh and a pneumatic staple gun, if you can get your hands on one, is a godsend (though with your family propensity for staple related injuries, be careful!) Good luck and send me pics if you decide to go for it!
